Squeezing every little bit out of that F20C. Grippy tires help too.

This dude is hauling ass. Got some nice oppo a couple of times, too. Tough to do that on the ‘Ring and get away with it.

Holy scheisse. There is no way I’d even consider going around the Nurburgring without a helmet, as a driver or passenger. Man, that guy is going crazy fast. Also, I expected bad things to follow the slide at 5:53. ...aaaaaand 7:20.

“...and get away with it” strikes me as the perfect phrase for what you’re talking about.

Yeah, I would definitely want my own helmet... especially in an open top car.

It depends what you drive really... Not to mention that a helmet on a regular car is not a solution to avoid death in most case. Helmets are heavier and meant to be worn with Hans devices to avoid neck injuries which are the leading case of death in motorsport.

In that case, on a roof less car I would probably wear one in case of a flip, but in hard top cars, I dont wear helmets if the car has a airbag... And if I wear a helmet, I use a hans device so that my helmet actually protects me instead of the opposite.

A HANS device would help guard against neck injury, sure, but I’d be incredibly surprised if it was detrimental to overall safety in a crash to wear a helmet without HANS, as well. At least with a lid on, you’re protecting your head somewhat from impacts—consider if your head strikes a window or other surface in a closed-top car; I’d want it on, and I doubt the added weight has a large impact on the risk of neck injury in most crashes. Considering convertibles, if your helmet strikes pavement during a rollover, helmet or not, you likely have some serious problems. I’m really a proponent of roll bars and harnesses if you do track time and can swing real safety gear, and a full cage if you get really serious (in which case a helmet should always be worn due to the unwanted possibility of contact with the cage, even if padding is present). Just my two cents.

If he does not wear a 4 point harness, a helmet would be alright as it would not stop you right away and put all that force on your neck. I went the half cage way myself in order not to destroy my head on a daily basis and it can’t hit myself on it.

And the added weight of the helmet is often what makes the difference between alive and dead on frontal impacts unfortunately.

But yeah I guess that unless you wear a harness a helmet won’t hurt (I wear one myself at the track). I can borrow a Hans easily though and it’s always I feel good wearing. I do not drive cars with harnesses on track at all without one.
